Grant Ellis

2012

Grant had previously studied at Undergraduate level at Southampton Solent University before deciding to take the MA in Marketing Management. He says: "The Business School places a lot of emphasis on vocational study. The lecturing staff are not just academics, but are also experienced in industry. The skills, theories and techniques that are taught are therefore conveyed in a way that places the application of skills in the context of the working environment. I am finding this a very stimulating addition to my degree."

Grant set up a small digital design company called Cre8ology as a testbed for some of research that he was doing for his MA. Since completing his studies, the company has continued to flourish, supplying web based design solutions to a range of clients.

He also now co-ordinates the marketing activity of a large automation software development company in Essex and is responsible for the full marketing mix from planning to branding, PR and market research.

The management skills taught on the MA have allowed Grant to manage these elements simultaneously. He says: "I really feel that the MA has given me the extra push that I needed to secure a long term career in marketing. It differentiates me in the workplace and has allowed me to progress in my career more quickly.

My first degree gave me an excellent grounding and the MA has enabled me to develop my understanding of how the skills I had learned would fit in to the modern world of professional marketing."
