Those going into Higher Education for the first time, especially through non-traditional routes, for example, already in work but wishing to go back to study.
Overview
Gives a foundation in the study skills required to succeed in Higher Education, including IT, note-taking, research, critical thinking, academic writing, and presenting. It also gives information and advice on student life, ranging from getting the best out of university resources to interaction with lecturers.

Delivery
Face-to-face teaching seminars and online material, including PowerPoint slides and interactive resources and tasks. Learning is supported by forums, and applied to experiences in the workplace. Practical exercises and academic tasks develop appreciation of the application of study skills. Quizzes are used to monitor progress.
Assessment
Assessment is through an essay relating to an issue associated with the participant’s area of work, or potential area of study in Higher Education. It demonstrates skills acquired during the course, including academic writing and critical thinking.
