Who is this for?
Professionals working in an environment where they could benefit from gaining skills and knowledge in mentoring.
Overview
Participants gain knowledge and skills in the principles of mentoring individuals, reflecting and learning from their own experiences. They are supported in a mentoring role.
Areas of study are tailored to meet participants’ needs to satisfy organisations’ specifications, but generally cover fundamental principles and skills of mentoring and how they are applied in a range of contexts.
Mentoring skills are developed in classroom-based activities practised in the workplace and maintained in reflective journals. Participants reflect on their experiences through discussion and self/peer assessment and engage in a range of learning experiences including group exercises and case studies.

Benefits
Mentoring is an increasingly desirable skill for organisations wishing to get the best out of their employees. Being able to mentor effectively enhances career opportunities and enriches organisations.
Delivery
Interactive workshops encourage participants to think reflectively and share through discussion and self-assessment using group exercises and case studies.
Individual tutorials provide handouts, references and sources and other learning materials. There is an expectation of group work, practising of skills and reading between formal classroom sessions. Participants maintain a journal.
Assessment
Assessment is in the form of a portfolio which includes a written statement defining the role of the mentor and the scope of the mentoring role in the workplace, a personal development statement, a development diary and reflective journal outlining the results of mentoring experiences and recommendations for future action to continually develop their mentoring skills and a plan for future development.
