Those wishing to enter Higher Education at degree level, especially non-traditional students who would benefit from the transition into student life.
Overview
Participants learn the study skills required for Higher Education at degree level, as well as preparations for university life, including library and IT use and interaction with lecturers and mentors.
They cover E-learning study skills, academic writing and referencing, research, critical thinking, presentation skills, the nature of Higher Education compared to Further Education and reflective learning.

Delivery
Face-to-face teaching seminars and online material, including PowerPoint slides and interactive resources and tasks. Learning is supported by forums, and applied to experiences in the workplace. Practical exercises and academic tasks develop appreciation of the application of study skills. Quizzes are used to monitor progress.
Assessment
Assessment is through a portfolio requiring participants to reflect and apply the range of study skills they have acquired, particularly academic writing, research, and critical thinking. The portfolio is excellent preparation for most forms of assessment in Higher Education.
