Exercise professionals wishing to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the psychology of exercise to develop a more client-focussed approach to training.
Overview
Participants gain knowledge, skills and understanding in nutritional theories and principles associated with healthy eating and their importance in maintaining optimum health and well-being.
They learn to assess nutrition information and develop skills in communicating this information to clients to facilitate permanent healthy eating changes.
Specific areas of study may change depending on the evolution of industry needs and new research, but generally include principles of nutrition and healthy eating; weight management programmes; exercise and energy balance; planning weight loss/gain; communicating nutritional advice; assessing nutritional requirements; behaviour change and maintenance: theory and measurement; lifestyle interventions; exercise adherence; obstacles to change; programme considerations; goal setting; behavioural change strategies.
All learning activities, guidance and support are online.

Why study this course?
Psychological input is an increasingly important part of the work exercise professionals put into their clients. This weight management and behavioural strand enhances organisational health and fitness services and increases individual career opportunities.
Delivery
Distance learning materials include directed reading, online lectures, literature searches, comprehension exercises, practical and/or online activities, blogs and discussion boards.
It can be studied at the student's own pace over one academic session. Tutor-directed activities are interspersed with self-directed study.
Assessment
Assessment is through two short answer tests allowing participants to incorporate their knowledge and understanding of the theories and principles of healthy eating and behaviour modification.
