"Before coming to Southampton Solent University, I spent ten years working for a high street bank in their Audits and Corporate department. It was from this my interest in accountancy grew and I found myself looking for good courses in the field. It was important for me to stay close to home, so after I graduated I could look for employment locally.
"I really enjoyed the first year of my course; I found all my lecturers to be really friendly and always willing to help – they always make sure we have understood what they've taught us. I made lots of friends too – not just from social events but getting to know one another through group work within class. Now I’m in my second year now and still really enjoying myself. Sure, the work load is larger and more challenging but I am still having a great time. Though you may feel under pressure at times your degree really does make you mentally stronger.
"After graduation, once I have my scroll and have my photos taken, I hope to go straight back into a full time job with the help of Careers & Employability, the University's employment service. I’d like to work for one of the major accountancy firms, work my way up to a position that suits me best. Though I believe you need to push yourself within your career, it’s just as important to keep enjoying yourself. If I can succeed in my goals I know my degree was my greatest investment!"
