"I chose Southampton Solent University after seeing recommendations from previous students. I liked that the course had a strong employment based focus to really help you prepare for your career.
"Before I came to Solent I had studied business related subjects at A Level before studying BA Business Administration back home in Germany. I got an ERASMUS scholarship to study abroad and decided to come to England. I’ve already lived in the USA for two years so jumped at the chance to improve my English and experience English culture. Unfortunately, being an ERASMUS student meant I could not finish my degree at Solent, so I did a Top-up degree which I completed with first class honours.
"My top up course was a very fulfilling experience. It was well structured, giving us support and confidence to know what to do whilst still challenging us to progress our learning. It covered all aspects of business studies, finance, human resources, management and marketing. The content was really up-to-date too, even covering the recent recession. I enjoyed writing my dissertation as it gave me a new perspective on the business world. The support I received from my tutors was outstanding too.
"The careers service is very proactive and heavily promoted throughout the university. It offers students the chance to find work either during or after their study. They can gain a cutting edge to getting ahead in the competitive jobs market. Through the careers service I gained employment as an intern at the university, which I do alongside my masters. After my studies I would like to continue working at the university or move into management or human resources.
"Being an exchange student is an amazing experience. Solent is a vibrant university full creativity and culture; I felt at home immediately and have made lots of friends from all over the world. It’s challenging but stimulating working with people of different nationalities, but also a very important skill – it prepares you for the working world. The language resources at Solent are varied and encouraged right across the university. It’s quite fun to pick up a new language or improve one you already have some knowledge of.
