BA (Hons) Business Studies, second year student Mohi Choudhury had always been academically focused and an active team player: elected school captain in his final year at boarding school, Mohi also represented his school in cricket and table-tennis at competitive levels and received many accolades. Academically, Mohi was very much focussed and performed well consistently.
“The city of Southampton greatly influenced in my decision to enrol at Southampton Solent University. I had read about this wonderful historic city which celebrates and shares its rich maritime heritage with visitors from around the world and I had done my research back home in India.
"I was eventually interviewed and felt that the overview of the course matched my interest closely. I also liked the fact the student residences were located within a reasonable walking distance to the University."
Mohi has a strong desire to excel in business and studied commerce at college. “My family is heavily involved in business and I enjoy participating and contributing ideas to the business environment in order to bring about successful business outcomes.
"I enjoy university life and I love being independent! I’ve met great friends from many different walks of life. I feel I've developed and acquired new skills and there is always an opportunity to participate in activities with like minded people.
"I have been fortunate to participate in volunteering and mentoring programmes which have improved my self-development and also helped me identify career opportunities."
Currently on his placement year, Mohi finds the business studies course to be practical and well structured and very relevant to the current business world. “The best aspect of this course is that it offers a placement opportunity. I am on currently working for a blue chip company in my field of interest and I am gaining invaluable knowledge and experiences which I am sure will help me in my final year! It is also an added value to my future career and job prospects!
"I have been thoroughly enjoying my placement year and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of taking a gap year. I have developed and matured both professionally and personally through this experience and I’ve had the opportunity to build useful networks and received quality advice and mentoring from senior work colleagues.
"I want to excel in a fast moving business environment where I can participate and contribute my ideas. I look forward to working for a financial firm and, after graduating, I intend to take a professional qualification and complete an MBA at Southampton Solent University within the next two years.
I have always felt that there was lots of support on offer at Solent and I have also learnt that it is important to be proactive to be successful.”
