Career opportunities
Employment in public relations is in-house or in consultancies or agencies, some of which specialise in particular sectors. In addition lobbying and political activity on behalf of clients may be undertaken.
Graduates can also consider opportunities in marketing and advertising as many of the same skills are used and strong skills in communication could also be used in areas such as journalism, broadcasting and publishing.
English teaching is another option, further training being necessary. The most common route is a one year post graduate teaching qualification, but there are also work based opportunities linked to accredited schools.

Course overview
Part of the English programme, this course takes a cutting-edge, interdisciplinary approach towards the study of English. You are encouraged to think in new and imaginative ways about fiction, drama, poetry and language, in combination with the study of public relations.
During the course you will develop insights into literary and critical theory which will complement your study of the huge expansion of new media and desktop publishing within the world of business. Creative and visual approaches are emphasised across the course.
The course features innovative approaches towards the study of literature and is taught by cutting-edge researchers and industry professionals, combining 'real world' vocational training with intellectually stimulating academic study.
There are many opportunities for you to explore your own practical and creative writing interests and take part in study trips nationally and internationally.
Industrial focus

Assessment
For the Public Relations units you will complete practical projects, reports, essays, individual and group presentations, dissertation, examinations. For English units, assessment includes traditional essays, examinations, research projects and presentations, as well as opportunities to submit creative writing, journalism, workbooks and portfolios.
