Three Level 2 BA (Hons) Graphic Design students won commendations after showcasing their creative credentials at the Young Creative Network Awards.
The Awards exist to inspire and showcase emerging inventive talent in design and visual communication. Record numbers of submissions were received this year, with only the most outstanding being awarded commendations. Students are given a brief by organisations such as Orange, O2, Audi, Doritos and Sainsburys, which then judge the entries.
Kev Mundy was commended by communications giant Orange, for his brief to create a vision for a future business in three to five years time. His idea was an interactive website, based around the revolutionary camera phone. Kev said:
"It was a great experience. The award will be really useful for my future career prospects."
Other SSU winners were James Isham and Paul Hicks, who received commendations from Texperts and Wagamama.
Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design, Steve Lannin, is pleased with the results. He said:
"A commendation means their work will be exhibited in London – last year at the Royal College of Art – where many major designers will see and judge their work for a few top honours. They will also be included in a book that is sent out to design firms across the UK."
He went on to add:
"Impressively, the majority of country-wide entries are from third-year Graphic Design students, so for our Year 2 students to have got this far is fantastic."
