Hayley graduated in 2008 and went on to work for the BBC, as a Broadcast Assistant at Radio One in London.

Ashley Howe (2007)

News Picture Researcher at Sky News

Ashley graduated in 2007 and has been working at Sky News since August 2007 and in her current post there of News Picture Researcher since July 2008.

Luke Webber (2006)

After graduating with a 2:1 degree, Luke is now building his portfolio by freelancing for What Mountain Bike magazine and taking on PR for various mountain bike races including the national series.

He says: "Everything pays and I am hoping to go full-time doing what I love."


  

Rebecca Martin (2006)

Rebecca, who graduated with a 2:1 is now deputy editor of the IPC title, Insider.

She says: "As deputy editor of the internal magazine, I'm reporting on what all the magazines are up to, from launches to brand extensions and parties – that's 90 titles at the UK's leading magazine publisher. You don't get better contacts than that."


 

Krishna Maroo (2006)

Krishna went on an internship to India with the Indian Government after graduating with a 2:2. She is now an editorial assistant for Screen Nation Awards magazine and works on a radio station.

She says: "Nothing could have prepared me for a job in the industry as much as work experience. The professional practice unit was by far the most useful – we put the skills we developed into practice."


 

Joanne Dymock (2006)

Joanna, who graduated with a 2:1, is now an editorial assistant on Money Management one of the FT's B2B magazines.

She says: "They've been so impressed with my writing style that they've got me writing already instead of waiting the six months they usually do with ed assistants."


 

Matthew Harfield (2006)

Matthew, who graduated with a 2:1, is looking to build a career in design. He is currently working at Proctor & Gamble as a label design manager.

He says: "I found the degree gave me the confidence to undertake in-depth research and question everything."


 

Sarah Nicholls (2006)

After gradating with a 2:1 Sarah has achieved her ambition to work as a reporter. She now works on the Western Gazette in Dorset covering everything from crime to social events.

She says: "The course was excellent. It provided the foundations for a career in journalism."


 

Amy Lawrenceson (2006)

After graduating with a 2:1 Amy is now working on the style pages of the London Paper. A job which she loves.

She says: "I thought the last magazine unit (professional practice) was imperative to those who wanted a career in journalism. Our lecturer Garry Edwards was a star!"


 

Vicky Kingsbury (2006)

Vicky excelled at the design elements of the course. After graduating with a 2:2 she is now a page designer for Stibo working on catelogues such as Kleeneze and Screwfix.

She says: "Journalism has helped me so much. It has given me more confidence with software such as Quark, especially now in a working environment."


 

Jon Palmer (2005)

Graduated with a 2:1 and was offered a job as a trainee sports reporter on The Citizen as a result of work experience. He is now chief football writer on The Gloucestershire Echo and has just published a book.

He says: "The course fully equipped me for life as a journalist. There is no better way of preparing for the industry than producing a weekly newspaper."


 

Melissa Wheeler (2005)

Works as a communications officer for Dorset County Council writing press releases and articles.

She says: "I really enjoyed my course. It gave me the practical skills as well as an academic qualification. The NCTJ certificate has been welcomed by all of my employers."


 

Jessica Bisson (2005)

Jessica graduated with a 2:1 in Journalism. After working at a local radio station she moved into PR.

She says: "I use skills learned during my degree on a daily basis (not least European media). In just eight months I have worked my way up to become Group Communications Officer."


 

Dan Thomas (2002)

Dan graduated with a 2:1 and spent six months at Ladbrokes until he got his first break into TV. He now works as a presenter for Real Madrid TV.

He says: "I get to live in an amazing city and report on one of the greatest football teams in the world. All that with a Solent degree."


 

Zoe Richards (1998)

Zoe, who graduated with a First, joined Style Media as beauty writer in 1999. She will join M&S magazine as deputy editor in Jan 2007.

She says: "The skills that I learned on the course have proved invaluable in shaping my career. By making the most of a focused curriculum, I had a head start in my chosen field."


 

Christian Saunders (2006)

Graduated with a 2:2 and now works as a freelance journalist. He has had features published in numerous magazines including Chat, Record Collector (including a cover story on Bruce Springsteen) and It's Fate.

He says: "The course gave me a much better understanding of the industry and what individual editors actually want."
