"Magazine Journalism is a great course. It has a diverse mix of modules ranging from Law and Ethics to Making Magazines and Life as a Freelance.
"Working in a magazine environment prepares you for industry. Using the latest digital processes you develop new skills that you can use in industry once you graduate. You learn how to self edit your work and produce great content that is accurate and informative. With hard work and dedication you can achieve great things on the course.
"Being taught by industry professionals is a definite plus. There’s always a deadline to work to just like there would be in a journalism job.
"The skills I gave gained from the course led me to get work experience at Heat magazine and make contacts within the media industry. Work experience is vital to the course. You gain hands on experience and a realistic perspective of the magazine world.
"Dissertation time can be stressful but really there’s no need for it to be. Simply plan your subject over the summer and start it as soon as you go back to University for 3rd year.
"But don’t forget to relax. Go out and have fun. The University experience isn’t just about work, it’s also about making new friends and great nights out. Join a society, there’s so many on offer. I was a Vixens cheerleader in my first year and I loved it.
"I helped to set up the Southampton branch of DV8 and have written for LISTED magazine since January 2009."
