“I’m the ‘relic’ sitting amongst all the youngsters in the Marketing Management lectures and seminars. I would stay at the back of the class, but these days I have to sit near the front — my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be!

“I enjoy being a student again and returning to a learning environment. I love it! It’s great being at Southampton Solent University, because there is so much going on at the University and so many opportunities are available.

“I have been nursing for well over 20 years. I’ve worked in public and private sectors as well as a nursing officer in the Reserve Forces. I have enjoyed many challenges in my career and personal life, including working in a war zone, running marathons and climbing mountains. Earning a BA (Hons) in Marketing Management is my current ‘challenge’ and will help give greater credibility in my future working life.

“I have just completed my first year and, after a bit of a shaky start, settled in very quickly. The lecturers are a great bunch of people who are always there to give help, advice and support when needed. The Gateway course for mature students returning to Higher Education was extremely useful and a great stepping-stone into university life. It was my deciding factor for coming to Southampton Solent, and I don’t regret my decision one little bit!”
