Alex Redfern

2012

Alex graduated from BSc (Hons) Media Technology in 2006.

During his time at Southampton Solent Alex lived as a typical student, residing in the Deanery Halls of Residence in his first year and then in a shared house in the Polygon.

In his last year at University, Alex worked at both the Glade and Glastonbury festivals, which he really enjoyed. This was an ideal opportunity to put into practice the things he had learnt on the course.

After leaving Uni, Alex enjoyed doing freelancing work, including video editing and filming.

By October, Alex had landed himself a good job working as a Broadcast Systems Engineer for the company EVS Broadcast, based in Bromley, Kent. This position enabled Alex to put into practice all the skills and knowledge he acquired on his degree.

Alex says "I love my job! My course gave me everything I needed for my job".

EVS's main lines of work are digital video technology, filming live sporting events and multimedia services. Clients include ESPN, NBC, BBC, Sky and Endemol.

Alex has worked on a variety of exciting projects since being employed by EVS, including working with Sky HD, both in the studios and outside broadcasting. Alex worked with Sky during their transition to High Definiton.

Alex was involved in setting up equipment for Channel 4's Big Brother, which led to him working for the Israeli TV version.

Alex has also worked at other big sporting events, including the French Open Tennis tournament in Paris, as well as Wimbledon for the BBC.

He was lucky enough to work on the Beijing Olympics, where he was located in Beijing for three weeks covering the ceremony.
