I chose to study Media Technology because I've always had an interest in audio and it seemed a logical choice to me. Before I came to Solent I studied physics for a year but it didn't really work out as I didn't enjoy the fact that the majority of the workload was theoretical.

I realised at that stage that I wanted to get into the film, television or music industry, so it made sense to get involved on a course that offered hands on experience and let me learn the job inside out whilst at University.

On the course, there is obviously theory involved but we learn in the classroom and then immediately get to transfer the theory into action in a real working environment.

My main area of interest lies with outside broadcasting and would ideally be where my degree will see me end up. The idea of taking cameras and the entire studio to an outdoor location is what I think it's all about and at the same time loads of fun.

As well as offering the high standards of teaching, the level of hands-on practice is invaluable. Both inside and outside university, the opportunities we come across are great to demonstrate to us what we'll be doing once we graduate and it gives us a massive head start in such a competitive industry. It really helps to put us where we want to be.

Also the lecturers are vastly experienced and all of them have worked in the industry at some stage in their career. They are all experts in their chosen field and their contacts and personal experiences form a great support network.
