I am proud to be able to say I was part of the first ever class to graduate with a degree in Sports Journalism from Southampton Solent University. That is because I truly believe it is a course that has already, and will continue, to produce many talented sports journalists.

The reason for this is the excellent team of lecturers that work on the degree. The fact that they are still actively working in the industry, and able to pass on the very latest skills that are required to make it as a successful sports journalist is invaluable. I would put a large part of my success in the industry so far down to the skills and knowledge that were passed onto me by the lecturers. As they have allowed me to step straight from life as a student into that of a full-time sports journalist.

After graduating from Solent I spent several months working for free in order to build my portfolio and gain more experience in the industry. The hard work and long hours paid off though, as I am now working full-time for IssTV (www.isstv.tv) as their Sports Presenter/Reporter, where I am producing, writing, presenting, reporting and editing news and features on sports events and stories across the south coast. Including an exclusive interview with Harry Redknapp from his home in Sandbanks.

I also have Solent to thank for giving me my first break as a broadcaster, after Solent Productions employed me to produce and present a feature on the BUCS Indoor Cricket Finals Day at Lord’s in 2010.
