James always took more interest in sport than in any other subject so his choice was an easy one. “I applied at Southampton Solent University and Chichester University as I wanted to stay close to home and I was accepted at both universities. But I chose Southampton Solent University without any hesitation after visiting on the open days.”
James adds: “Everyone at university is in the same boat in their first year; you don’t know many people initially but you soon make great friends with similar interests. University is different from school, lecturers treat you as equal responsible adults and I liked that!
"The BA (Hons) Sport Studies degree offers flexibility of choice and allows me to shape the course to fit around my interests through a good selection of units. It’s always easier to learn a subject when you can voice your preferences and tailor your studies to your personal requirements.
"My course has been enriching in many respects; I very much enjoy working in teams to prepare for group presentations but I have equally learned a lot from doing individual assignments; it can be hard work at times but I’ve also had a lot of fun and great laughs with my course mates on our many visits to the library to do some research work.
"I have certainly changed as a person and I believe that I have become a more confident person.
"After studying on the Sports Studies course for a few months I realised that there are many more career opportunities in this field than I imagined and I still have another year to find out what I’d really like to specialise in when I graduate."
