100m is a collection of artwork that has been inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic games for London 2012. Over 100 artists were commissioned by the Creative Campus Initiative, from 13Universities across the South East, to create links between athletic endeavour and artistic practice.

The exhibition showcases a selection of the commissions with an eclectic mix of artefacts, photographs and films reflecting the myriad of ways in which artists can represent and respond to sporting endeavour and Olympian achievements.

Photographer and film maker Zadoc Nava photographed female boxers, who will be competing in the Olympics for the first time in London 2012.

Ben Golding’s work explores the rhythm and patterns of repetitive training and sporting performance in To Run. His film is based on the imagined thoughts and feelings of an Olympic runner as they train and push their body beyond the pain barrier, towards the finish line.

Painter and printmaker,Andrew Kötting, teamed up with prolific author Ian Sinclair to embark on a surreal journey across British Olympic territory on a plastic swan-shaped pedalo! Their bizarre experiences and encounters are recreated through maps, words and film.

100m is an insightful exhibition that takes a creative look at preparations for the 2012 Games. From the intense efforts and challenges that athletes face, the beauty they can create and the unique ways in which individuals and the community are responding to such a distinctive event.
