Where is Southampton?
Southampton is on the South Coast of England, an hour by train from London and within easy distance of Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Winchester.
Its location makes it easy to travel to Europe either by ferry or from the city's international aiport at Eastleigh, and the M3 motorway provides a rapid route to London's Heathrow Airport.
How do I get to Southampton?

Taxi is not recommended as it is very expensive.
If you arrive after 18.00hrs and you do not have accommodation in Southampton, you are advised to find a local hotel and to travel to Southampton the following day.

Where is Southampton Solent University?
Southampton Solent University is centrally located in the vibrant city of Southampton, with the city centre just a short walk across attractive parks.
It is also within walking distance of the train station and the bus coach station.

Do I need to register with the Police?
Students (except those from Commonwealth or EEA countries, USA and Japan) who intend to stay in the UK for longer than six months are required to register with the Police upon arrival. If you have to register with the Police it will be stamped in your passport upon arrival in the UK.

Are there any other students from my country?
Southampton Solent University has international students coming from more than 70 countries every year. Should you want to find out whether there are students from your own country, please go to the Students 1st Information Centre who will be able to assist you.
Can anyone meet me at the airport?
The International Advice service operates a travel guidance service over a period of two days prior to the start of the International Induction programme. International Induction Guides will meet students at Terminal 3 at Heathrow Airport and South Terminal at Gatwick Airport. The Guides will help you to catch the relevant public transport service, which will take you to Southampton.

How can I make friends with other international students?
Taking the decison to study abroad is not such an easy decision to take. The idea of being away from your family, speak a different language and making new friends can be quite daunting. However, Southampton Solent University do understand the international students which is why every year there is an International Induction programme organised prior to the Freshers' Week. This induction allows you to familiarise with the University and the city, and of course make new friends with other international students. You will find that you will make friends in no time.
