News release - Beautiful Nun
Third year Performance students at Southampton Solent University will be acting out the struggles between church, state and terrorists in their performance degree show of Seamus Finnegan's The Beautiful Nun next week.
Set in Colombia the play explores the cost of the fight for moral and political power, played out in the conflicts between Sister Anthony of the Catholic Girls School, Captain Gonzales the local army leader and the leadership of the liberation movement.
Seamus Finnegan is a playwright of international renown and his works have been regularly performed throughout the UK, Europe, Israel and America. The RSC and The National Theatre have produced his plays and he has created dramas for both BBC radio and television. Having benefited from his lecturing on the BA (Hons) Performance Degree for the past few years the University is thrilled to be putting on one of his plays - the first time his work has been seen in Southampton.
Principle Lecturer in Film, Television and Performance, and the plays Director John Barlow says:
"Having worked with Seamus for a long time I knew that having the opportunity to explore a work of such contemporary substance would prove invaluable to our students."
He went on to add:
"The setting of Central Baptist Church is perfect for the resonances of the play and has allowed our students to experiment in style."
The performances will take place at the Central Baptist Church, Devonshire Road, Southampton from 15-17 May at 7.00pm with a matinee performance on the 16th at 2.30pm. Tickets will be available on the door for £4.00 and £2.00 concessions.
