Future film makers ...

1 July 2008

Sixth form students with a flair for film-making will be showing off their talents in a bid to be crowned the region's reel stars at Southampton Solent University on Thursday 3 July.

Colleges from across the county will be screening their films at the University's Sir James Matthews Building for the Hampshire-wide hunt to find the film makers of the future.

The 'Show Us Your Shorts' competition - organised by Southampton Solent University and supported by BBC South, The Hampshire Consortium, Barton Peveril Sixth Form College - will be judged by a panel of media experts.

The five Judges - including BBC South presenter Dani Sinha, Jo Cassey from Skillset and the University's Head of Media, Paul Marchbank – will decide the winners on the night.

Entrants have submitted a DVD of their work, no more than five minutes long. All participants have been invited to the screening and the winning entries will walk off with cash prizes of £100 for the winner, a second prize of £75 and £50 for third place. The winners will also receive a Digital Village voucher worth £250 - co-sponsored by the University and Digital Village - to spend on equipment for their college media department.

The University's Head of Media, Paul Marchbank said: "Southampton Solent University is thrilled to be organising this year's competition. Our Film and Television courses have an excellent reputation in the industry and we are keen to encourage and support local talent in any way we can."
