Solent students celebrate degree results

Wednesday  16 July

Results daySouthampton Solent University congratulated this year's crop of clever clogs as 3,000 celebrating students checked out their final degree results today (Wednesday July 16).

This year the traditional scrum at the noticeboards was superseded for the first time by the internet, with 1,600 students checking results online before 10am.

Among the best performing courses were BA (Hons) Computer and Video Games, with a third of its 19 students being awarded first class degrees – and just as many already employed in the sector.

Adam Curtis, who was awarded a first, has landed a job with leading games company, Kuju. He said: "My degree course was fantastic, with lots of input from the tutor, who was able to give industry- related advice and support. Doing so well in my degree and getting such a prestigious job has been great."

Course leader, Adam Barton, added: "The students did incredibly well. They worked hard and were highly motivated to get jobs in the sector."

Amanda Norris, BA (Hons) Journalism is on the right track to a career in motoring journalism after gaining a 2:1.  Amanda, who comes from a family of motor mechanics, is just about to start work experience with Top Gear magazine. "I've loved cars since I was little, and I'm hoping to be the female answer to Jeremy Clarkson," she said.

Harriet Camp gained a first class honours degree in BA (Hons) Fashion, giving her a great start to her career plans to be a fashion buyer. "I'm on top of the world. I've gained so much confidence over the last three years."

Gavin Weedon, who has just gained a first in BA (Hons) Football Studies, is continuing his research in the field. He said: "I'm over the moon."

Debbie Miners, who was awarded a First in BA (Hons) Psychology, had presented her final year project at the British Psychological Society's (BPS) Annual Conference in Dublin and was part of a group of Solent students selected  to present posters in California.   She said: "Meeting leading figures in the world of psychology gave me a real understanding of my work. I'm thrilled with my final degree result. I had a fantastic time at Solent."
