World renowned Iranian musician, Bijan Mortazavi is being awarded a Visiting Fellowship from Southampton Solent University’s School of Media.
In celebration of his award – presented in recognition of his achievements as a leading Iranian musician, for his educational work in America and his extensive charity work – Bijan will be performing a concert in the University’s performance studio on Wednesday, 25 November (1 pm).
Bijan Mortazavi, who was born in the northern part of Iran, started playing the violin at the age of three. In Tehran, he was trained by five of the most respected and well-known violinists who taught him specific techniques such as improvisation, orchestration, arrangement and quarter tone scale.
At the age of seven Bijan began playing the piano, guitar, percussion, and various folklore string instruments. He was just 14 when he assembled a 32 person orchestra and performed his own compositions and arrangements at the famous Ramsar Summer Camp in Iran.
Bijan moved to the UK after graduating from high school and pursued his academic interest in the field of Civil Engineering while continuing his performances and violin training.
