Graduating in uncertain times
Southampton Solent University will be helping its students and graduates ride the recession and kick start their careers at the job and placement fair next week.
While some companies are recruiting 'business as usual', many sectors are reporting increased competition for graduate opportunities as a result of the global economic downturn.
Final year students and graduates will be encouraged to be proactive, positive and flexible during a series of talks, workshops and CV clinics on Monday, 16th March.
They will have the opportunity to learn about more careers initiatives on offer, Graduate Jobs South* and the increasing importance of work experience and placements.
During the afternoon, students and graduates will get the chance to show local and national employers what they have to offer. More than 35 employers - including Sky news, Abercrombie & Fitch and the NHS – will be on hand to give short presentations and advice on job opportunities within their organisations.
Elizabeth George, Southampton Solent University's Careers &Jobshop Manager says: "We are offering our students and graduates a lifetime commitment to help them succeed in present and future job markets.
"In today's market our students and graduates need to act now, apply early and be one step ahead of the competition. This event is an ideal opportunity for them to find out how to improve their employability and network with employers."
