April 20 2009
Internationally renowned DJ, James Zabiela, has been awarded a Visiting Fellowship at Southampton Solent University in recognition of his cutting edge performance and technical DJing skills - appreciated by clubbers, DJs and producers around the world.
The Southampton-born DJ has been taking to the classroom to deliver guest lectures on the BA (Hons) Digital Music course - the only UK music course that focuses solely on the production of cutting edge electronic dance music and hip-hop -since 2007. Hugely popular with the Digital Music students, James effortlessly transfers his talents from the big stage to the classroom with his pure skill demonstrations, friendly chat and advice.
As a musical globetrotter, James regularly performs in leading venues in the UK, USA, Europe, Canada, South America, Japan, and Australia, and often shares his sets with notable DJs and producers like Sasha and John Digweed. His One+One album - made in collaboration with Nic Fanciulli and released by Ministry of Sound - was the fastest selling album in the company's history. Just recently James released his latest mix compilation, The Masters Series - a two disc album featuring his exclusive 'field recordings', brand new original productions, and additional tracks and remixes.
James was awarded DJMag's Best British DJ and he was also named Australia Dance Music Awards' Best International DJ. James is also the technical consultant for Japanese company Pioneer - assisting in the development of their world-renowned DJ equipment.
"Having such an important figure from the contemporary dance music world on board as a visiting fellow is an exciting opportunity. His skill and experience continues to inspire and motivate our talented students", said Bernard Living, BA (Hons) Digital Music course leader.
