News release Josiah's mobile moves wow London station
January 26 2009
It's the internet hit that brought a London train station to a standstill – and Southampton Solent University student, Josiah Oyekunle, was one of its dancers.
T-mobile's most talked about advert – featuring 350 dancers 'spontaneously' dancing at Liverpool Street Station – gave four of its employees a chance to star in the television advertisement.
The second-year BA (Hons) Popular Music and Record Production student – who works part-time as a T-mobile sales consultant - was one of the chosen few.
The ad starts with a normal morning at the station, with early morning commuters making their way to their trains. But when the intro to Lulu's classic hit Shout blasts out over the tannoy, hundreds of dancers break out into a synchronised routine.
Josiah was selected to be part of the ad after T-mobile invited employees to upload a mobile phone video of themselves doing their best moves. Josiah's video – filmed on New Years Eve – won him a place at a dance 'boot camp' to learn the routine.
He said: "I've got a reputation for being the first and last on the dance floor, so I had to get involved.
"I couldn't believe it when I was chosen to take part. We ended up performing the routine 17 times at Liverpool Street Station. Each time we brought the place to a standstill."
