Gearing up for graduation

More than 2,000 students will graduate from Southampton Solent University during the University’s annual Graduation ceremonies at Southampton Guildhall.
Students will be graduating with degrees and professional qualifications during 10 ceremonies from 1-5 November, in subjects ranging from advertising to yacht and powerboat design and business management to illustration.
This year sees the first cohort of students graduating in BSc (Hons) Applied Sport Science, BA (Hons) Sport and the Media, and BA (Hons) Fashion Styling.
Southampton Solent University Chancellor, Admiral The Right Honourable Lord West of Spithead, will preside over most of the graduation ceremonies, which will also be made available to friends and relatives all over the world on a live webcast.
Professor Van Gore, Vice Chancellor of Southampton Solent University, says:
“This is one of the most important and happiest events in the University calendar. We should never underestimate the difficulty and the value of gaining a degree, for the individual, their families and the wider local and national community.”
The University will also be presenting honorary degrees to academics and professionals who have made an outstanding contribution in their field of expertise, including:
Inspirational sailor and Southampton Solent University alumnus Geoff Holt MBE (Doctor of Sport); one of the UK’s best-loved comedians Jo Brand (Doctor of Media); successful businessman and Dragons’ Den star Theo Paphitis (Doctor of Business); Oscar winning actor, writer, director and producer Julian Fellowes (Doctor of Arts); innovative Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar (Doctor of Arts); the UK’s most celebrated typographer Richard Kindersley (Doctor of Design); football legend Terry Butcher (Doctor of Sport); former Deputy Vice-Chancellor John Latham (Doctor of the University); Managing Director of the world’s oldest privately owned motor manufacturing company Charles Morgan (Doctor of Business); and Chairman and Chief Executive of Hampshire Rosebowl Plc Rod Bransgrove (Doctor of Business).
