Students from Southampton Solent University’s BA (Hons) Television Production course walked away with the top prize at the recent Royal Television Society (Southern Region) Awards.
The prize for Best Student Entertainment Television Programme was awarded to Motive, an original murder-mystery quiz show, filmed before a live audience in the university’s high definition studio.
The programme was created by a group of 20 final-year students under the guidance of unit leader Trevor Curtiss. The Director and Producer of the show – recent graduates, Tom Stewart and Rob Snelgar- received their awards, from hosts Fred Dineage and Sally Taylor, at a prestigious awards ceremony at Winchester Guild Hall.
Trevor Curtiss, Senior Lecturer in Television and Video Production, said: “ Motive was praised for its original concept and outstanding professional production values, and beat off competition from other universities.”
Film and Television Programme Group Leader, Karen Randell, said, “I am proud to see our Television students producing work of this quality; it was an ambitious project and their hard work and creative focus will certainly help them to enter the industry”.
Motive now goes forward for consideration at the Royal Television Society national awards later this year.
Recent Solent graduates from BA (Hons) Animation were also nominated in the Student Animation Category with Tom Fry receiving a special mention from the judges.
