Air ambulance says thanks

25 March 2011

Students and staff from Southampton Solent University, the Students’ Union and local residents were invited by Danielle Mugridge of ‘Bag it Up’ to see the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance in action as a thank-you for fundraising efforts during last summer’s student change-over period.

Using Solent University’s innovative eco-float, ‘Ernie’, over three tonnes of recyclable textiles were collected and donated to ‘Bag it Up’ in 2010. This generated much-needed funds towards the running of the Air Ambulance, which requires £125,000 a month to survive.

David Masters, Minister, Central Baptist Church, Polygon said: "It is a wonderful opportunity to see the end result of something we've put so much hard work into."

Vicky Cladingboel, Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) Paramedic added: "Without this valuable support we wouldn't be flying and able to provide the service we do. We are very grateful."
