Community congratulations

Tuesday 15 February

Southampton Solent University’s Community Liaison Officer recently received a Commander’s Congratulations Award for her work with residents and students living in the Polygon area of the city.

Commander in charge of policing in Southampton, Chief Superintendent Matthew Greening, presented Melissa Reddington-Cartmell with her award during a ceremony attended by members of the police and the city council.

The award recognises Melissa’s work with the police and local authority to help improve relations between students and local residents, including night-time patrols, safe student projects, and residents’ meetings.

Southampton City Council’s Anti Social Behaviour Operations Manager, Derek Stevens, said:

“Through her dedicated work with members of the community, the city council and the police, Melissa has shown real understanding of partnership working for the benefit of the community and our organisations.

“She goes the extra mile to ensure we achieve our objectives and has a ‘can do’ attitude to solving problems.”

Melissa was praised for her commitment to Operation Batcombe - a night-time patrol with the police and local authority – which involves advising students on safe and neighbourly behaviour during nights out. Police also said she was a driving force behind the Safer Student Forum, a multi-agency platform, which helps to improve students’ experiences in the city.

She said: “It’s great to be recognised in this way. It highlights the importance of partnership working for the benefit of our students and the people who live and work in Southampton.”
