London Debut for Graduate Fashion Show

Monday 16 May 2011

London Fashion Show graduate designsGraduating Fashion students from Southampton Solent University will be showcasing their final-year collections in London, for the first time this June.

The final-year fashion designers - hoping to follow in the footsteps of top designer and former student, Jenny Packham - will present their work in a catwalk show at the ‘Free Range’ event in the increasingly fashionable Brick Lane area of London on 1 June.

Graduating students will be presenting collections utilising a range of fabric types and incorporating diverse themes, from ‘wearable architecture’ - using riveted metal and wood - to collections inspired by abstract expressionism and the destructive power of water.

Southampton Solent University’s Fashion Programme leader, Philip Clarke says: “The ‘Free Range’ catwalk show is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our diversity to the London fashion industry.

“Fashion is a highly competitive industry and Solent prides itself on producing designers, photographers and stylists who, as well as mastering technical skills, develop a finely-tuned business sense and sophisticated conceptual awareness.”

Prior to the London catwalk show guests will have the opportunity to take part in a live fashion shoot, styled and shot by Solent students on the Fashion with Photography and Media and Fashion Styling courses.

Make-up for the event will once again be sponsored by cutting-edge brand Illamasqua, who have developed a strong link to the BA (Hons) Make-Up and Hair Design courses over the past couple of years.

Works from graduating students from the University’s portfolio of fashion courses – including Fashion Design and Promotion, Fashion with Photography and Media and Fashion Styling – will also be on display at an exhibition located in the Truman Brewery as a part of the ‘Free Range’ event.

As well as showcasing their designs in the capital, there will be a local graduate fashion show at the University’s John Millais theatre on 10 June.

The University will also have a stand at the Graduate Fashion Week event in Earl’s Court from 5-8 June, displaying work and portfolios from the Fashion Programme’s final-year students.
