Raising awareness of human trafficking

Students performing Body & Sold

Performance students from Southampton Solent University, alongside students from Kingston University and Florida International University (FIU),USA, are performing a hard-hitting docudrama on human trafficking.

Deborah Fortson’s ‘Body & Sold’ - which was recently performed for policy and lawmakers at The Kennedy Centre, Washington - will take place in the University’s John Millais theatre on July 6 at 7pm.

Directed by FIU’s Phillip Church, the semi-staged, multi-media theatre piece - based on transcripts from young victims of human trafficking - hopes to raise awareness and help halt this criminal activity.

After the Millais showing, which is open to the public, there will be a Question and Answer session with the student performers and Miami artist, Xavier Cortada.

Xaviar will provide an interactive element to the evening with an on site 12x20 foot ‘message mural’ signed and painted by students from Tiffin School, Kingston and Miami Beach High School.

The play will also be performed at the Rose Theatre in Kingston-Upon-Thames on July 8 as part of The International Youth Arts Festival.
