Solent Creatives launch
Friday 4 March 2011
Southampton Solent University is about to launch a new venture aimed at preparing students for the increasingly self-employed, entrepreneurial nature of employment in the creative sector.
‘Solent Creatives’ is a register of students equipped with the latest media tools and techniques who are ready, willing and able to take on freelance assignments from any organisation.
The register comprises a student talent pool offering a range of skills to match business needs including logo design, copywriting, promotional support, film making, animation, illustration, market research, journalism, public relations, web design, social media, advertising campaigns and event management.
Businesses can register free and there is no formal charge to organisations who use the service, although they are expected to cover the students’ expenses. Any additional remuneration is up to them.
The new ‘Solent Creatives’ agency will be located in the University’s Millais building, on the East Park Terrace campus.
Suzanne Dixon, Head of School of Writing & Communications at the University commented: “Southampton Solent University is committed to engaging with, and supporting, local businesses and building links between our students and the community. This venture will give local enterprises affordable access to media expertise that could transform their business”.
