Businesses back Solent Creatives

 Businesses and associates looked through portfolios on the dayThursday 10 March saw an impressive turn-out at the launch of Solent Creatives, an exciting new venture from Southampton Solent University.

Based on the University’s main campus, Solent Creatives’ is a register of students equipped with the latest media tools and techniques who are ready, willing and able to take on freelance assignments from any organisation.

The initiative is aimed at preparing students for the increasingly self-employed, entrepreneurial nature of employment in the creative sector.

Already 40 local businesses have signed up and will benefit from an array of skills on offer including logo design, copywriting, promotional support, film making, animation, illustration, market research, journalism, public relations, web design, social media, advertising campaign development and event management.

Businesses can register free and there is no formal charge to organisations who use the service, although they are expected to cover the students’ expenses. Any additional remuneration is up to them. 

Suzanne Dixon, Head of School of Writing & Communications at the University commented: “Not only will this give our students the opportunity to build their confidence and acquire real-world experience - but it will give local enterprises affordable access to media expertise that could transform their business”
