Solent Sound Music festival

Wednesday 25 April 2011

SolentHampshire college students have been working with Southampton Solent University to organise their own music festival.

In celebration of the University’s popular music courses, Solent invited music and media students from the regions Further Education colleges to learn new skills within music performance, music production and music promotions and put them together to create the 'Solent Sound Music Festival'.

The University has supported the college students involved by delivering two music masterclasses as well as providing mentoring and guidance from Southampton Solent undergraduates on the Popular Music Performance, Popular Music production and Popular Music Promotion degree courses.

The Festival will take place on Wednesday 4 May from 19.00 - 23.00 at the University's state-of-the-art multi-purpose performance space at the main campus on East Park Terrace.

A panel of judges, including the University's music lecturers and industry experts from The Joiners live music venue and The Ranch Production House, will be awarding a first prize of vouchers to the most outstanding performance by a college. Participants will also be fighting for a support act slot and a music promotions work placement at The Joiners and a work experience position for the most promising production student at The Ranch Production House.

The four colleges taking part in the project  are Itchen Sixth Form College, Barton Peveril College, Basingstoke College of Technology and St Vincent College.

Students taking part will also receive an EP of the event and a short movie of the gig, to commemorate their hard work and achievements.
