Student's stylish designs
Tuesday 9 August 2011
Southampton Solent University interior design student, Erika Davies, has been shortlisted for the National Design Award 2011.
Erika, who will graduate this November, reached the top five in the prestigious competition, which attracts students from colleges and Universities all over the UK.
As part of her runners up prize, the BA(Hons) Interior Design (decoration) student will receive a year’s student membership to the British Institute of Interior Design, a National Design Academy (NDA) workshop of her choice and an NDA National Design Award trophy.
Erika said: “Taking part in the National Design Award was invaluable. It gave me a great opportunity to apply my passion for interior design to a real-world brief. To have been short-listed is fantastic. It will be great for my portfolio and will be a great stepping stone into becoming a freelance designer.”
Ten Solent University students entered the competition, which required them to design the interior of a £1million Penthouse apartment in Nottingham’s RiverCrescent. Another Solent student, Andrew Bolt, was highly commended.
The judges were impressed with the high standard of work submitted this year. Anthony Rayworth, NDA Director of Studies said: “The standard of work was exceptional and I would be happy to implement many of the designs in my own apartment”.
An awards ceremony will be held in the completed RiverCrescent penthouse in Trent Park, Nottingham later this year.
