Solent students at GlastoIn the lead up the this year’s world famous Glastonbury festival,18 media students from Solent University pitched, shot, edited and uploaded videos highlighting the festivals green message: ‘Love the Farm, Leave No Trace.’

Students from Journalism, Advertising and Television Production degree courses created nine creative and humorous films on how to reduce the environment impact of the festival for the official Glastonbury website.

Another group of Solent students have just arrived at the festival to knuckle down for what is possibly the best work experience in the UK.

More than 30 students and staff from media related courses - including Television and Video Production, Media Technology, Film and Television Studies and Sound Engineering - are taking Solent’s Outside Broadcast truck, along with wellies and waterproofs, to produce a series of short films commissioned by the festival’s Glastonbury TV and provide live visual projections for the Dance Village East stage.

Southampton Solent has once again sent its skilled team to test its training to the limit, using the University’s cutting-edge equipment to perform vital film and production jobs for the festival.

Solent Senior Technician, Dave Poulton, started the work experience in 2004, after years of taking a small group with him to run a voluntary food kitchen on Michael Eavis’s site.

Since then, Solent students have learnt their trade while mixing with the world’s biggest performers in roles ranging from film production and radio reporting, to backstage management and filming live acts for outside screens.

Senior Film and TV Studies Lecturer, Tony Steyger said: “This is a fantastic live experience for our students who will have to work hard and think on their feet.”
