Carol Marlow receives honorary degree

Carol Marlow, Managing Director of P&O Cruises, received an honorary degree in recognition of her contributions to the travel and service industries today.
She received the honorary degree of Doctor of Business from Southampton Solent University during a ceremony at Southampton’s Guildhall on Monday 21 November.
After graduating with a 1st class BSc joint honours degree in Economics and Business Economics, Carol enjoyed a career in marketing and general management within the travel and broadcast industries.
She joined P&O Princess Cruises in 1997 and after doubling the size of Princess Cruises in the UK, she took over as Director for Cunard Line in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In November 2005 she was appointed President and Managing Director before taking over as Director of P&O Cruises, Britain’s largest cruise line.
Carol became Chairman of the Cruise Section of the Passenger Shipping Association in 2002 and from July 2006 to July 2008 she was Chair of the Passenger Shipping Association in total, Cruise and Ferry. Having completed the usual period of office, she is now Vice Chairman.
She spoke of her honour at receiving the award and congratulated the new graduates on their achievements. "Now it’s time for the next chapter. Some of you will have found jobs already, it is difficult out there but if you really want something you will get it."

Almost 2500 students are graduating with degrees and professional qualifications during 10 ceremonies at Southampton guildhall from 21 – 25 November.
