Southampton Solent University has become the official sport science sponsor of AFC Bournemouth.
The partnership between Southampton Solent University and AFC Bournemouth began at the start of the season and saw the players put through their paces in state of the art facilities to undertake a range of fitness tests.
This is the third year AFC Bournemouth has taken advantage of the Sport Science facilities at Southampton Solent, using them to help obtain top performances from the squad.
The team have been using VO2 Max tests at Southampton Solent University’s Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Science.
AFC Bournemouth manager, Lee Bradbury commented, "We're really happy to have access to such great facilities and a fantastic team of scientists who can monitor our playing staff.”
Dr Stewart Bruce-Low, Senior Lecturer in Sport Science, says: “This is our third successful year of working with AFC Bournemouth and it is fantastic to have this formalised partnership.
“This not only benefits the players and coaching staff but also our very own sport science students through opportunities the football club have offered in the form of internship positions. In a highly competitive job market these internships are invaluable for our students to set them aside from other graduates who may well be applying for the same jobs in the future."
“This is a great opportunity for our students to test their skills in a real life work situation while working with professional footballers,” He added.
The University’s sport science department was ranked fifth in the country for the second year running in the National Student Survey.
