Students take their style to the finals

Sacha Wren's final workBA(Hons) Make-up and Hair Design students from Southampton Solent University, are already making their mark as the next generation of make-up artists after four students are shortlisted for a prestigious international competition.

Earlier this year, luxury British make-up brand, Illamasqua launched ‘The Distinction in Make-up Artistry Awards’ - an international hunt for emerging talent.

A prestigious judging panel of industry experts - including Dazed and Confused’s Senior Fashion Editor, Katie Shillingford; Academy & BAFTA Award winning make-up artist and hair designer and founder of CB*MA, Christine Blundell and Illamasqua Creative Director,Alex Box – shortlisted the finalists for the competition’s three categories.

Solent’s four finalists took part in a ‘Live Competition’ on the 15  October where their final looks were judged by the panel. All finalists’ images have been uploaded on to Illamasqua's facebook| page so that the public can vote for their favourite.

The winner in each category will be based upon the highest score accumulated from both the judging panel and the public vote. The winners will be announced at an exclusive prize giving at the Illamasqua Flagship Store in London on Tuesday 1 November 2011.

Recent BA(Hons) Make-up and Hair Design for Music, Film and Photography graduate, Sasha Wren, has been shortlisted for the BA Final Year Students category. She will face fierce competition - from three other London and USA based finalists - for the prize of a day assisting Illamasqua’s creative director Alex Box on a Dazed and Confused fashion shoot, £2500 prize money, £500 to spend at Illamasqua’s flagship store and £2000 for the winning student’s institution to spend on a bespoke Illamasqua kit of the tutor’s choice.

Final-year BA (Hons) Make-up and Hair Design for Music, Film and Photography student’s Lara Himplemann, Alison Meek and Kat Vogart have all been shortlisted for the Foundation and second-year Degree Students category. The winner will win a two-week internship at Illamasqua Head Quarters, £1500 prize money and £500 to spend at a private shopping spree at the make-up brands flagship store and £2000 for the winning student’s institution to spend on Illamasqua products.

The winners from each category will also have their competition winning designs featured on Dazed and Confused Digital this December.

Solent University’s Course leader, Clementine O’Hara says: “The team is thrilled at the strong presence of Solent students in the finals and how these students are challenging the contemporary role of the make-up artist."
