Research clusters and groups

Group-based research produces more results and faster progress. We are keen to encourage colleagues to work collaboratively and to use the capability productively, perhaps to accelerate development or to address more substantial challenges. Research clusters and groups are the vehicles to encourage collective working.

Research applied to commercial problems, consultancySolent Researchservices, specialist taught masters provision, and joint working with European and international partners offer a rich mix of sources, limited only by the imagination of our research community.

The benefits of our collective working are seen in the developments already in hand – Centre for Research and Enterprise in Art, Design and Media (CREADM) has within its umbrella several focused research clusters and groups; the burgeoning developments in sound technology and environmental policy are tribute to the cooperation between colleagues to develop new ideas and seek research funding. Clusters and groups also provide individual opportunities to demonstrate leadership and commitment, to help develop research careers, leading sometimes to the award of readership and professorial title.

The future promises accelerated change, and individuals are encouraged to follow their ambitions and dreams. The collaborations developed with colleagues can span decades and multiple institutions, and are one of the joys of academic life here at Solent and a key part of its future.
