are undertaking primary research in conjunction with a variety of external agencies as well as being actively encouraged to attend and present at conferences. In addition, a remit of the cluster is to help support and encourage staff to register and complete PhD programmes. To help disseminate the research activity being undertaken within the cluster, a research seminar programme runs on the second Wednesday of every month.

These seminars are delivered by staff involved in the research cluster, although anyone from within the University or any of the partners involved with the cluster are welcome to attend and/or present.

The research cluster members have projects that are on-going within the area of biomechanics, sport psychology, teaching and learning, exercise physiology and health promotion.

Cross-faculty partnerships within the University allow research to flourish in areas such as music and sport and exercise science as well as behaviour change in sport and exercise psychology. In addition, the cluster works in partnership with Sport Solent (the recreation arm of sport within the University) developing links and applied research in sport and exercise science.

Aims of the cluster:

  • To increase research outputs
  • To increase the number of research active staff
  • To increase the number of staff on PhDs
  • To increase the number of PhDs within the programme
  • To mentor less experienced staff through the research and publishing process
  • To apply and build on previous success in bidding for research grants
  • To create partnerships in other departments within the University as well as partnerships external to the University.
