Course Leader

Department of Science and Engineering

Marc Molinari

Biography

Marc studied physics at the University of Tübingen in Germany, then obtained a first class degree in physics with electronics and computing from Kingston University and subsequently a PhD in Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton in 2003. Since then he has pursued a wide range of research and teaching interests in computational modelling and simulation methods to optimise designs on distributed high-performance compute clusters as part of the Microsoft Institute of High Performance Computing as well as being a lecturer in the Computational Engineering and Design group.

Marc joined Solent University as senior lecturer in electronic engineering in 2014 and is now the course leader for our electronic engineering courses as part of the applied engineering programme. He teaches analogue and digital electronics, embedded systems and sensors including Arduino, FPGA and robot programming, and electronic circuit design as well as professional and study skills, including project management techniques and business costing, communication and employability skills.

As part of the drive for employability, Marc makes use of extensive experience with industry through his own company that he has run as consultant and managing director for over four years, and has supported new entrepreneurs as a member of several start-up enterprise ‘dragon’s den’ style funding panels.

Marc's research interests lie particularly in the use of distributed sensor technologies, data collection, recording, security and analysis, the IoT, microprocessor programming, future electronic and electrical technologies and applications, 3D printing and manufacturing and electronic and software design for industrial automation.
