Recreational Sailing
Southampton Solent University Watersports Centre offers recreational to students and staff. Students and Staff must have the following minimum qualifications to take boats out:
Dinghies RYA Seamanship Skills or Higher
Keelboats RYA Seamanship Skills or RYA Day Skipper Practical or Higher
Crafts available:
Wayfares: We now have 4 new Mark 4 Wayfarers, which are available for hire.
Students will have to provide their own safety boat driver to drive the rescue boat.
Westerley Centaur 26ft: 'Tormentor' is a family crusing bilge keel'er with a roller furling headsail providing safe, relaxed sailing. With onboard cooking and fresh water facilities and heads she is a joy on a day sail.
Channel 245's Aspire & Aspire To: These are identical small cruising yachts good for day sailing or overnight trips around the Solent.
Cost:
A charge of £5.00 per person, per session will be made.
Full days or Overnight Trips £10 per person, per day. All marina costs etc are your responsibility.
Sessions:
There will be 2 sessions per day. The morning session will be from 09.00 to 12.30, and the afternoon session will be from 13.30 to 16.30. All sessions are subject to availability of boats and weather conditions.
Competency:
A level of competency will need to be evident to use the Watersport Centre's craft. All dinghy users must present RYA Seamanship Skills or above and for the use of Tormentor or the Aspire's will be with either with RYA Day Skipper Practical or RYA Seamanship Skills and above. All Safety boat drivers must produce an RYA Safety Boat certificate.

Booking must be made at least 24 hours in advance. This is to confirm the availability of the boats.
