This is a one day introduction to Powerboating, that covers the practical aspects of safety in powerboats and basic boat handling. It is recommended that this course is followed up with the Powerboat Level 2 course.

R.Y.A. National Powerboat Certificate Course -
Level 2

2-Day Course

This course will introduce the newcomer to the sport of Power Boating, including  different types of powerboats, basic boat checks, pre launch checks, basic powerboat handling skills at both low and high speed and how to plan a short coastal passage then carry it out using the skills taught. 

Assessment will be conducted on a continual basis and by a small practical and oral assessment at the end of the second day.

The level 2 qualification is strongly advised as it is recognised as the basic minimum standard to drive a powerboat.

International Certificate of Competence also available.

R.Y.A.Safety Boat

2-Day Course

This course covers the teaching of the Safety Boat course of the RYA Powerboat Scheme and includes practical sessions afloat and teaching theory.

R.Y.A.Powerboat Intermediate/Day Navigation course

2 -Day Course

The course aims to teach day-time navigation in coastal waters using ribs. The content of the course will include:- How to plan a day cruise, using a mixture of traditional navigation means and GPS navigation, including the use of chart plotters. Tidal heights calculations, buoyage and pilotage, along with boat preparation, weather, boat handling, including man overboard, and passage marking will also be covered during the course.

R.Y.A. Advanced Powerboat 

2-Day Course

The aim is to teach boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation in a planning powerboat by day and night in tidal coastal waters.

Entry Requirements:

 

Candidates should be competent  up to RYA Intermediate Powerboat standard and navigational ability up to Day Skipper Shorebased Level.
The  applicants must hold a current First Aid Certificate and an SRC (VHF) Operators Certificate.

RYA Powerboat Instructor Pre-Entry Assessment

This is a now a compulsory pre-requisite for attending the Powerboat Instructrors course. The assessment which will be carried out by an RYA Powerboat Trainer, will ensure the candidate has the appropriate knowledge and driving skills required before being able to go on to the course itself. Your driving skills need to be at the highest standard before considering the assessment.

R.Y.A Powerboat Instructor's Course

3-Day Course

This is a 3-day course for those people wishing to become RYA Powerboat Instructors. The course prepares applicants to become Instructors by covering all aspects of the Level 2 syllabus and how to teach it. Applicants wil be required to give both classroom and practical presentations which will be assessed by an external Moderator

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must have completed a pre-entry assessment and hold the RYA Powerboat Level 2 (coastal) Award, hold a current first aid certificate and membership of the RYA. they should also have at least 5 seasons experience of powerboat driving or 1 season if you have been driving full-time as part of their job. Ideally they should also hold an SRC Operators licence.

R.Y.A. Advanced Powerboat Instructor Course

2-Day Course

This is a 2-day course for RYA Powerboat Instructors who wish to teach the advanced syllabus. Applicants must  hold the Advanced award.  On successful completion of the course the applicant will be able to teach the RYA Advanced Powerboat course. The course's main aim will be on how to deliver the advanced syllabus.

Entry Requirements

RYA Powerboat Instructors (coastal), holder of an RYA Advanced Powerboat Award, current RYA membership and first aid.

Accommodation is available on campus subject to availability.
