Moving in procedure

Move in

To help your move into your student residence go as smoothly as possible, please find below an idea of what to do and what to expect when you get here:

  1. Look out for the Solent Angels in bright t-shirts; they will help guide you to your halls of residence. Tip: To save time, it's a good idea to complete all your student accommodation paperwork before you leave home. On arrival, make sure you have all the necessary paperwork to hand - don't pack it in with your luggage!

  2. If coming by car, you will be able to park at the halls of residence for up to an hour to enable you to unload. After this time we would need the car moved to a public car park as space is limited.
Tip: Do not start unloading until you have the key to your room.
Please note that there is likely to be a delay on entering the car park and your patience is appreciated.

  3. Once you have arrived at the Residence, please make your way to the booking in desk. This may be for a particular block or house, therefore please ensure that you know your room information.
Tip: There will be free tea and coffee on arrival. Why not let your parents have a much needed rest whilst you get booked in; after all they'll need their strength to help you carry your belongings.

  4. Once you have been booked in, you will then need to go to the key collection desk and someone will show you to your room.
Tip: Now would be a good time to complete your inventory form because whilst the room is empty it is easier to see what you have.

  5. Now you know where you are going, start unloading the car using the useful trolleys available. The Angels will also be available to help you unload.
Important: Ensure that anyone who offers to help you unload or carry your belongings is an Angel (wearing a yellow t-shirt) or a member of Housing and Hospitality staff (wearing a staff uniform).

  6. Once you have got your stuff in your room, pile it in a corner and save the unpacking for later.

  7. Move your car to one of the local car parks.
Tip: Before you get to the car park, why not take a trip to the local supermarket to stock up on all those essentials. (Now aren't you glad you let your parents have that cuppa on arrival when it comes to paying the bill?) If possible, get your parents/friends to drop you off with the shopping outside the Residence before they go to the car park.

  8. Take the opportunity to have a wander around the local area to help you get your bearings.

  9. When you go back to your room, why not see if anyone else in your flat or corridor has moved in yet and pop in to say 'hello'.
Tip: Remember to hang your 'I've moved in sign' on your door so that others know to come and say 'hi'.
