Which residence?
This is a commonly asked question and the answer really depends on what you're looking for.
All of the university accommodation was built in the mid nineties and has been designed to a similar standard and presentation. The residences are also all just a short walk from the main campus and the city centre.
This means the only real differences are:
-
En-suite or non en-suite
-
Large or small residence
-
Flat or traditional layout
En-suite or non en-suite
En-suite accommodation will provide you with more privacy, although it is more expensive and you will have to clean the en-suite yourself.
Standard non en-suite accommodation on the other hand is not only cheaper but tends to be more sociable. Also, the bathroom facilities are cleaned for you so there is less for you to worry about.
Large or small
The larger residences, such as Lucia Foster Welch| (805 rooms) and Deanery| (422 rooms), tend to be more buzzy and lively.
As there are more people around, it's more likely you will be living near students on your course, which may come in handy for study groups and group work.
The smaller residences, such as Hamwic| (228 rooms) and Chantry| (208 rooms), have more of a community feel as you get to know most of the people you live with.
While we try to provide students with the type of room they prefer we cannot guarantee that there will be rooms available. If there is a particular type of residence you would like to stay in, please list it when applying and perhaps even include a second choice.
