I want to do a 'top-up' year in 2012, will it affect my funding?

A 'top-up' course taken immediately after completing a lower level course is called ‘end-on’ study.

  • Students completing a foundation degree, HND, HNC, DipHE, CertHE, on a full-time basis in 2011/12 will retain their existing student support arrangements if they continue full-time onto an Honours degree level 'end-on' course starting 2012/13.
  • Students starting a foundation degree, HND, HNC, DipHE, CertHE, full-time in 2011/12 and want to continue onto a full-time 'top-up' year in future will also retain their existing 2011/12 support arrangements.
  • If the mode of study changes, for example part-time to full-time, or a gap year is taken between courses, the student will come under the new support and fee arrangements for 2012 onward.
  • Students completing their full-time or part-time lower level course 2010/11 who delay starting their 'top-up' course until 2012/13, will be subject to the tuition fee charges and student support arrangements which apply to new 2012/13 students.

Deferring a place from 2011 to September 2012

Students who are accepted on a course in 2011 but wish to defer until 2012 will apply for loans and grants at the new 2012/13 rates.
