Hockey
Southampton Solent offers a wide range of sports and activities to try out but if you want the perfect mix of serious sportsmen and women with a social scene that will blow your mind then Southampton Solent Hockey Club is the place for you.
We offer competitive hockey with Men’s and Women’s team playing a good standard of University hockey with both teams being promoted last year. The teams you might find yourself playing against include local rivals, Southampton University First, Bournemouth First, and the occasional trip to Plymouth! Neither team is yet to have a registered Second team but there are always opportunities to break into the first team
throughout the season. The men’s First team alone used 19 different players in the first team league and cup games last season.

But don’t worry, if you don’t make the 1st team there are regular opportunities to play in a friendly against local teams and mixed games too. You will avoid the 4-hour journey down to Plymouth to play a gritty game on a wind swept pitch sneaking a 1-0 win only to have to drive four hours back to Southampton. 1st team isn’t always that great, so the 2nd team definitely has its advantages.
Training
Everyone is welcome at the training sessions on Monday nights from 5pm-7pm at Trojans hockey club, whether you are on the first team or even just trying hockey out.
Socially the guys and girls go out together on a Wednesday after games to celebrate the days success (or even, very occasionally, lack of) and these are not to be missed. It doesn’t matter whether you are the life and soul of a party of if you just want a few drinks with some friends - Wednesdays offer both.

Membership cost: £85 for the academic year 2011/12.
Achievements:
Southampton Solent Hockey is a club on the rise, the women’s team are going into the season on the back of two promotions and the men’s team, after missing out on promotion two years ago strolled to promotion with three games left in the season last year. The 2011/12 season promises big things for Hockey.
