Access to Learning Fund

What is the Access to Learning Fund?

  • a non-repayable grant for those who are in financial hardship
  • can help with: living costs, childcare, travel, accommodation, household expenses, books and course equipment.
  • cannot pay for tuition fees
  • It may not be able to help those who have just mismanaged their finances - we can offer money management advice on this.
  • cannot fully compensate for the lack of parental contribution, especially where a student has only been able to take out the non-means tested part of the Maintenance Loan.
  • Funds are available from October to June or until the funds are exhausted, whichever is the soonest.
Who can apply to the Access to Learning Fund?  
  • Full-time 'home' undergraduate and postgraduate students 
  • Part-time 'home' undergraduate and postgraduate students - studying at least 50% of a full-time course (that is 60 credits), (25% for disabled students).
  • EU students who are in receipt of full UK funding (including Maintenance Loan).
  • International students cannot apply.
